The verdict

Nonna’s is a Brookside storefront with flour on the counter, a guy tossing dough in the window, and slices the size of a placemat. It’s the least complicated restaurant we review all year, which is exactly why we review it: this is where KC families actually eat on a Tuesday.

The table split along predictable lines. Dad respected the char. P1 respected the pepperoni cups. Mom quietly had the Caesar and declared it the best thing on the table, which at a pizza joint is either high praise for the Caesar or an indictment of the pizza — she declined to clarify. P2’s cheese slid off in one piece, which cost a point but provided the evening’s best entertainment.

“You can watch them throw the dough. Dinner and a show for under forty bucks.”

Weeknights you walk right in, boosters are stacked by the door, and a whole pie plus a salad feeds all six of us with lunch left over. It’s not a destination. It’s better: it’s close.
